Wish you had been there … JY Fleet #77 based out of the historic “126 years and still young” Rochester Canoe Club, hosted its annual JY15 regatta during the weekend of July 21-22. 10 boats competed in beautiful, sunny, warm, race friendly conditions. Eight Rochester Canoe Club teams were joined by special guest teams from Seattle, Washington (John & Chris Taves) and Fruitport, Michigan (Thomas & Katie Reyburn). Short course racing on Irondequoit bay off of Lake Ontario managed by RCC’s superb Race Committee, facilitated 8 races on Saturday and 3 on Sunday morning once a thermal blew in from the lake. Close racing had 6 of 10 boats with at least one first place finish including both of the out of town teams. A BBQ chicken dinner on Saturday evening was enjoyed by all after the days racing, a short rules clinic and a longer happy hour. Special recognition to top under 30 team Serena Lofftus and Curtis Bloomer, along with youngest racers Chris Taves (7) and Brianna Gammons (13). Thanks to all the volunteers and participants who helped make this a great weekend of racing and camaraderie. Please join us next year for another great JY regatta weekend!
