CUTTER SMITH/LAURA HUTTON WIN MIDWINTER'S 2003!
Hi Everyone:
Cutter Smith and Laura Hutton won the JY15 Midwinter's held last week at
Clearwater. It was a battle down to the last race between Cutter/Laura the
Gimples, Greg and Suzanne Griffin and Dave Hoye/Misty Reeder. Luckily for Cutter
it blew like stink on Sunday, 20 plus which is his favorite breeze
and he got two bullets to bring home the gold. Check out the website which will
have pictures and results next week.
This years format was new and worked out great. The Clearwater Sailing Center
is under new management and you can have the social events right there including
beer. So we had all after race entertainment right at the center, worked out
great. They also provided a race committee who did a
great job. 9 races!!!!
The weather was great and after this winter we have had, it was just nice to be
warm and feel the sunshine.
With the new changes at the center, we have decided to make it the permanent
home for our midwinter's. We will put together another package for next year
including hotel. Great place for a quick family vacation in the doldrums of
winter. Wendy and Morgan went to Busch Gardens. We will limit entries next
year to 45 boats which is a good size for the area we sail in and race
management.
You should also start thinking about this years North Americans which are being
held at Rush Creek Yacht Club in Dallas Texas. First weekend of October. It is
going to be a real Texas shootout. You will be able to register on line and
charter/delivery to Texas will only cost $100.
For those in the Northeast, Breakwater Yacht Club in Sag Harbor is going to host
the Atlantic Coast Championships in June. Don't miss this one. Its always fun
to head out to Long Island.
Spring is almost here, and before you know it, summer will be upon us. See you
all this summer,
Dave Eck
