JYCA
E-NEWS
Greetings 2002 JYCA Members (and
prospective members):
Welcome to our new monthly (10 times per
year) E-mail newsletter. (if you do not wish to receive future issues, click on
the unsubscribe link at the end of this newsletter)
We've been very busy organizing for the 2002
season, here's an update on what's happening:
Membership
- 100+ individuals and/or families have joined
JYCA so far for 2002. If you haven't joined yet, there is still time. A
membership application is included at the end of this e-mail.
- Read on to learn about some benefits that will
be available to members only (Like a new, long awaited tuning guide!)
Website
- Progress is being made in developing a new
website separate from the present site. In the past the JYCA site was under
the JY Sailboats site. Now the JY Sailboats has teamed up with Luhrs Marine,
we need our own site.
- John Amendola has volunteered as the the new
webmaster. The site will feature a better integrated message board, up to
date racing schedules (as long as you send the info!), news, articles,
updated fleet contacts etc. It's been quite an adventure getting this set up
but thanks to John (and a $1000 gift from JY Sailboats to get us up and
running) we are soon to be live!
Leadership
- Congrats to Jim Ryan as the new
Mid-Atlantic district representative and Mark Kondracky in New England. Jim
sails in fleet 38 Sayville LI. Contact Jim at wmw93@aol.com
with your questions and fleet activities. Mark sails with fleet 89 in
Westbrook CT and Essex frostbite. Mark can be reached at u9293@snet.net
- We still need a class treasurer,
e-news editor, a new Southwest district rep and fleet captains for several
fleets. None of these positions involve a great deal of time, (well maybe
some) but the pay is great. So think about it! Also thank you to all those
who did volunteer on the survey to help in some way. If I haven't
contacted you yet, be patient, I will!
Fleets
- Welcome to out newest Fleet at the Richmond
Yacht Club on Staten Island. They are looking to organize a regatta this
year. Contact fleet captain Doug Olsen
.
- Please let us know if the fleet captain
listed on the website for your fleet is incorrect. We are correcting some
and will have them on the new site.
Regattas

- Several other regattas
are in the works with fleets scheduling their Spring meetings to set dates.
Please keep us informed!
Newsletter
- The survey returns showed an overwhelming preference, among the options
presented, for more current and frequent communications. This, together with
cost and effort of producing paper newsletters, causes me to think that a
different approach is called for. I have recommended, and gotten the support
of the class council members to publish a paper newsletter just twice a
year, in the early Spring and following the NA's in the Fall. The Spring
newsletter this year will focus on the regatta schedule for the year and
feature the complete survey results plus an interview with Pat and Trina
Huntley, winners of the 2001 NA's at their home club in Erie PA. In
addition, we will do 10 e-mail newsletters per year like this including
news, reporting on regattas, articles etc. We'll give this approach a
try and see how it works out. Send us your ideas, articles, pictures and
input. A successful newsletter depends on your support!
Tuning
Guide
- Yes, what you've all been waiting for is in the works. Prescott
Littlefield is heading up the efforts by the Technical Committee to produce
a new guide. This guide will feature a compilation of opinions from the past
and present top JY racers with a wide variety of tips and techniques for
sailing your JY faster! Don't be left at the back of the pack wondering what
everyone else knows that you don't! Join JYCA today to get the guide. To
join, print out the coupon below and send with your check to:
