Here's what's new:

2003 North American Championships

It's time to start planning for your trip to the North American Championships at Rush Creek outside of Dallas Texas.  The regatta is scheduled for October 3,4,5.

Here are the details from the man himself, SW District rep Dave Hoye ...

"Mark your calendars now for this year's premier Championship Regatta at Rush Creek Yacht Club, October 3rd - 5th.  Presented by Hunter Marine Corporation, the 2003 JY 15 NA Championship will be a regatta to remember.  Rush Creek is on Lake Ray Hubbard, a 22,745 acre lake about 15 miles east of Dallas.

Seven races are planned over three days to test your skill, acumen and good fortune.  Your registration fee will cover lunches for you and your crew, 2 Saturday night dinners and 2 T Shirts, not to mention other festivities!  Housing will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and we will attempt to accommodate all requests for housing.  Several hotels are available nearby in the event private housing is not available.  You may even choose to charter a JY to make your trip to the Lone Star State that much easier.

After racing, you can enjoy the camaraderie of fellow JYers against the backdrop of a big sky sunset reflecting off the water.  Share tips and tricks, learn from others, and dance on the deck Saturday night.  Perhaps you'll even snag a cool gift or two!

Trophies will be awarded to the top place skippers and crews at the completion of the Championship.  Additionally, trophies will be awarded to the highest placing skippers and crews in the following categories: Husband/Wife, Parent/Child, Master (55 and older), Female, and Junior (less than 18 in calendar year 2003).

During the day, for your non-sailing family members, the State Fair of Texas will be in full swing.  Visitors to the 2003 State Fair of Texas will be invited to "Taste & See" while exploring a colorful world of celebrity chefs, expert cooks, landscape design, wine tastings and more.  The Auto Show and the Livestock Competitions are not to be missed.  See http://www.bigtex.com/ for more.  Six Flags Over Texas amusement park is one of several attractions about an hour away and open on the weekend.  http://www.sixflags.com/parks/overtexas/

Visit our website at http://www.rcyc.org/jy15/jyna/ for more information or contact Regatta Chair Mary Medina at amarlea@yahoo.com or 972-424-5040.

We can't wait to see YOU there!"

I sailed Rush Creek last year for the Southwest Championships and I can tell you, this is a first class club with all the right accommodations to make for a great regatta. Let's have a good turn-out!

Current round-trip airfare to Dallas TX from:
New York $265
Hartford $412
Chicago $274
Detroit $353
Atlanta $216
Providence $272
etc...

Online registration will soon be open if it isn't already. Make your arrangements early. Lot's of the Rush Creek YC members live in the community right around the reservoir and they are very willing to provide as much accommodation as possible in their homes. With the good deals on air fares and JY Sailboat's support with charters etc. this could be a very fun and economical Fall vacation destination.

(P.S. If you're thinking about going but not sure if your ready for your first "National Championship Regatta"  -RELAX! The emphasis at every JY regatta is on having a good time with JY fellow sailors. Just come on down and I guarantee you won't regret it!)

(P.P.S - Dave is also working on arranging baby sitting as many Rush Creekers have young families. Let us know if this is an issue for you.)

Other upcoming regattas

Check the schedule on the website for other upcoming regattas. The notice of race has just been posted for the Atlantic Coasts Championship, June 28&29 to be hosted by the Breakwater Yacht Cub in Sag Harbor NY. Go to http://www.breakwateryc.org/ for the details or contact John Niewenhous at jniewenhous@cs.com I'll see you there!

2003 Regatta Results

Thank you to Akiko Kamimura who sent me results and a report on the recent University of Michigan Spring Fling Regatta. Akiko writes:

"The University of Michigan Sailing Club held the 2nd annual Spring Fling Regatta on May 3-4 (Sat & Sun) at the Baseline Lake, Dexter, MI. We had 16 boats. Eleven of them were from our club. Five boats were from MI, PA, or WI. Weather was great. We had nine races in total. Don and Jean Bergman, from Macatawa Bay YC, won the regatta again. We had lots of volunteers to help with the regatta. Race Committee did great job. We also had racing clinic and dinner together on Saturday. All participants' names and top five finishers are on http://www.umich.edu/~umsc/regattas/sfresults03.html".

I always appreciate getting fleet regatta reports so please keep them coming! (P.S. There are also pictures on http://www-personal.umich.edu/~kamimura/umscsun.htm Looks like some pretty light air!
